Bike Ministry
In 1998 a small group of men from Grace Church tried fixing up some bicycles for missions. They’ve been fixing up bikes and even receiving donated new bikes and redistributing them ever since. In fact, the Bike ministry recently celebrated giving away 1,300 bikes. The local newspaper, Hernando Today, came by for the celebration and did an article on Grace Church gifting its 1300th bicycle. That’s a lot of bikes! Here’s how it works. If you know of someone in the Spring Hill area who could benefit from the use of a bike, then call our church at 352-683-2082. We’ll put them on our bicycle waiting list. The Bike Ministry participants are self directed in their labors, and also in their decisions about who receives the bikes. Lots of bikes come in with great repair needs. Our bike ministry participants do anything from fixing the gears to putting on new tires and brakes. Many of our bikes have gone to our Migrant Worker Ministry in Dade City, where folks who have no cars get great usage from bicycle transportation. It really cuts the walking time for a trip to the store and home. We are also fortunate to combine our Bike Ministry with our 5 Cent a Meal Missions, so that when we deliver bicycles to Dade City, we can also take along a large quantity of food to be given away to the needy. In this way we rejoice in sharing God’s blessings with others. Our group will resume its labors of love after the hot weather of summer is over. If you want to join the Bike Ministry, the meetings are work meetings, informal, and happen on Wednesday mornings at Grace. Bring your tool box and your Christian love. |
